Samuel S.Thorpe is a well known and highly collected local artist. He kept an active studio in both Townsend, MA and Kennybunkport, ME for many years and his work has found its way into many private and corporate collections throughout the country, including the corporate offices of the Aubuchon Hardware Company, MBNA America, and others. Sam Thorpe is known for his classic New England scenes which include saw mills, barns, fishing shacks, maple sugar houses, town commons, and seasonal landscapes. This painting is a beautifully done New England barn scene with a playful group of daisy's. The painting is an untouched and totally original work the artists own handmade frame. An outstanding example of his finest work. Thorpe was known as an atmospheric painter. He used the elements of light, shadow, color and composition to create a certain mood or feeling to his paintings. As a painter who worked primarily in oils, the texture and vibrant colors of this medium easily led to compositions of this type.
