Trying to push the boundaries of my imagination and communicating from my “core” have always been
essential components to my art. It is created from the inside out, more about what is instinctively understood
rather than seen.
Having always been an abstract studio artist, I embarked on a very different creative journey a few years ago.
In addition to my studio work, I began “plein air” painting. Somehow working outdoors, I find the greatest
peace. With oil paints & a palette knife, it is where I developed my expressive “plein air” style.
While painting surrounded by nature, the most consistent and powerful experience is the energy. It is that
surrounding energy and the energy from within that I strive to express in my work. The process of plein air
painting freed my spirit as well as my art process. It has also enriched and helped evolve the work I do in the
studio. Life is not static, nature is not static. Even when seemingly dormant, they are constantly changing and in
motion.
Believing in freedom of expression, breaking rules to break new ground and the significance of exploration,
Doreen LaScola first found her voice as an artist (and as an individual) at Minneapolis College of Art & Design and
U-MASS/Boston. It was in those environments where her eyes opened, and she began to see and express her
inner life for the very first time.
Doreen LaScola is an award winning, mixed media and multi-disciplined artist whose work resides in private
collections throughout the United States. Doreen works out of her studio at the School Street Art Studios in
Gardner, MA.
