| Eileen Donovan Capolongo is an Athol, MA artist who works primarily in oils. Her favorite subject matter often includes still lifes, landscapes, and portraits. The still lifes are done from direct observation, while her landscapes are done partly on site and partly from photographs. She says about her work, “I try to show the beauty of the effect of light on form in a realistic yet non- photographic manner”. Eileen’s colorful realist works are the result of her arduous training and fifty years of experience. She is also an accomplished sculptor and worked for some time for the Danbury Mint, in Norwalk, CT where she designed and crafted three dimensional artwork for many of their products. She has studied at the Art Students’ League, in New York, NY and the Frank Reilly School of Art, also in New York, NY. Frank J. Riley was one of the most popular teachers at the League, and it was in his classes that Eileen began her fascination with traditional oil painting. Her juried exhibitions include the National Arts Club, the National Academy of Design, the Catharine Lorillard Wolffe Art Club, and the American Artists’ Professional League, all in New York City. She has also exhibited at the J. Todd Gallery in Wellesley, MA and numerous local and regional venues. She is a member of the Art Students League of New York, the Deerfield Valley Art Association, and the Petersham Craft Center. Mrs. Capolongo’s years of experience results in a body of work that is peaceful and harmonious, intimate and warm. There is a strong sense of personal involvement with the subjects of her paintings, as if each were held in her hands for a long time, which of course in a sense they were.
