I have been working as a fine art photographer since 1992. I work primarily in black and white, as I am perpetually taken with the richness, subtlety and visual sensuousness of a well-executed silver print. All work is in very limited editions as I do my own printing in black and white and some in color. All prints are finished and mounted and matted to archival standards. I generally make exposures in available light, using 35mm, 6x7 medium format, a digital SLR and the Holga plastic art camera. My photography is concerned with the capture of transient light and time in relation to individuals, nudes in the landscape, fairs, flea markets, carnivals, trains, old architecture and abandoned sites. I have long been interested in creating close-ups of objects and details from old architectural sites. These ephemeral still life's, such as buckets, barrels, belts, old rusted machinery, and time clocks stopped forever, seem to be caught in time. These places that were once the homes and work places of a previous generation are disappearing before our eyes...my photographs are often all that remains of them. In my figurative work, I am fascinated by the contrast of skin with wood, water, sand and stone, and the play of light which reveals and distinguishes form. I feel that black and white, especially infrared, abstracts form and describes in rich sensuous tones the beauty and vulnerability of our naked selves. |
