Helen Burrows Sleeper's lifelong study of painting is along with her love of people and nature present an art that shows intelligence and discipline. She is primarily known for her maritime, nautical, landscape, and portrait paintings. Her portraits are more than a likeness; they capture the essence and character of the subjects, making her paintings unique. She believes that beauty is found everywhere, which she expresses through her sensitivity to and application of color. Her paintings meet the highest standards, from the finest museum-quality materials to the professional competency of the artist. Helen, herself a teacher, has studied with many prominent painters, from her early years in Virginia to more advanced study in Boston, Cape Ann and abroad. Helen was a long time Wakefield MA resident but also painted from her studio on 11 School Street in Rockport, MA. She was also a long time featured artist at the Enrico Donati Gallery in Newburyport, MA. She is a member of the International Society of Marine Painters. Helen considers painting "a life-time study" and continues her artistic expressions that began at the University of Virginia in the 1940s. Her work is on permanent display at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Wakefield Town Hall, Everett Town Hall, Winchester Town Hall, Burlington Town Hall, and other public/ private collections in New England. Recently, Helen has established residence in Atlanta, Georgia where she is a member of the Atlanta Portrait Society, Dunwoody Art Association, and National Society of Marine Painters.
