1938 IVER JOHNSON
MODEL 76M STREAMLINE DELUX
PAGE #31
This is a 1938 Iver Johnson Model 76M, Men's Streamline Delux in Iver Johnson blue paint with a hand striped spear point white
head.  This bike is in untouched as found original condition, with no restoration by me.  I purchased this bike along with another Iver
Johnson Truss Frame Roadster from an estate in Dedham, MA after receiving a call one morning from the owners son.  Serial # 572061
is stamped on the seat tube of this 18" Men's steel frame Streamline.  The original 26" x 2 1/8" natural grain steel wheels are in decent
shape and the 26" x 2 1/8" balloon tires still hold air.  The rear wheel still has the original New Departure style "D" coaster brake hub
while the front wheel is laced to the original Iver Johnson hub.  The 1" pitch chainring has 26 teeth and is mated to a 10 tooth rear
sprocket.  The original Iver Johnson braced #142 handlebars with forward extension stem and comfort grips are still in place, as is the
Messinger 4 "Auto Cushion" saddle and the Men's Person's Supreme ball bearing rubber pedals.  At some point in time a front basket
was added.  This bike also retains its original enamel fenders which have aged evenly with the rest of the bike.  The original drop
stand is missing but the fender clip, reflector, chainguard, and truss rods are all intact.   All in all, a nicely preserved  example of a
true "garage find" Iver Johnson that I plan to keep "as is".  There is just something uniquely interesting about a bike that is found in
this condition, it's a true survivor.  One can only imagine the stories it could tell and the sights it has seen, and that is something you
just hate to mess with!
