| A few years back I did a presentation at the Fitchburg Historical Society that was titled, “From Rollstone Hill to Litchfield Park, the History of the Rollstone Boulder". It was quite well attended and is still being watched frequently on FATV to this day. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind, that the Boulder, Rollstone Hill, the quarries, and their connections to the history and culture of the city, are very high interest topics, not only to the people that live in town, but to significant numbers of people in the region. So, I began to think, how could this presentation be brought to life and made more interactive for the community? Could the material in this presentation be incorporated into a “Walk”of some type? After spending some time thinking it through, the idea of a walk began to materialize that would not only be fun, exciting, and family friendly, but a walk that would also be rich in history, culture, education, fitness, and scenic beauty. Because the destination of this walk would take us to the original location of our famous "Boulder" on the summit of Rollstone Hill, past Fitchburg High Schools famous "Rock", and through a landscape of total rock and stone I coined the name "Rock Walk" as an appropriate designation for this trail. |
