This is a fully restored 1915 Iver Johnson Model 90B, "Chater Lea" Special Racer, with a 23” Molybdenum Steel Diamond Frame.
1915 was the first year that Iver Johnson introduced their “top of the line” Chater Lea Racer with English components, and this racer
has them all.  The threaded bottom bracket is all vintage Chater Lea components with a 23 tooth chainring, 7 tooth rear cog, and 7"
pedal arms.  Hubs are 40 spoke rear, and 32 spoke front Chater Lea racing hubs laced to the proper high "V" profile 1" x 28" wood
racing wheels. Finishing off the wheelset is a NOS set of 28" x 1 1/8" United States Special Racer tires. Paint is Iver Johnson Ebony
Black with double hairline gold pinstriping.  Up front is the classic  nickel plated headtube, narrow nickel racing fork, and gold plated
headbadge.  A Brooks, B-15 Champion Standard racing saddle, Sturmey, "Made in England" Quill Track Pedals, Iver Johnson #11
racing handlebars with "Major Taylor" forward extension, and original style grips add to the great vintage look of this racer.  Serial #
262845 is stamped on the upper seat tube, which puts it very early in its first year of production.  This extremely rare, low production
number bike, may very well be the earliest known example, as no earlier Chater Lea racer has been located to date, or is known to
exist.  All in all, a superb example of an early Iver Johnson Chater Lea period racer.
